Private Camping & Retreat Property in Hilo, HI

Located in the hills of Pa`auilo Mauka, on the Big Island of Hawaii, Camp Mekokiko is a ministry of the Hawaii District of the United Methodist Church. The links on the left of the screen will give you a familiarization with the 36-acre camping & retreat property in Hilo, HI, and what is available at the current time for rent.

When complete, the facility will have available cottages, bunkhouses, recreation pavilion, chapel, tent sites with showers and bar-b-ques, campfire arena, dining and kitchen facilities, trails, playfield, orchard, and parking lot.

Rentals are available only to not-for-profit groups or their members, such as churches, temples, scouts, community organizations, and city and state government agencies. Use the On-Line Reservation Application link to make a reservation.

CDC Guidelines mandated for Camp Mekokiko renters

Safety guidelines currently in practice throughout the property

1) Wear a face mask when around others. This also help keep you from touching your mouth.

2) If coughing or sneezing step away from others, use additional covering of nose and mouth, dispose immediately of any facial tissue used into trash containers.

3) We recommend keeping a 10' distance from non family members. Its safer than 6'.

4) Use available hand sanitizer, wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, and do not touch your face.


Rental restrictions currently in practice: COTTAGES

A) Common area touched and used objects and surfaces will be frequently disinfected for safety. Picnic tables will be sanitized between usages.

B) Only family members living under the same roof at home (including children) are allowed in the family’s rented cottage. Entry into your family’s rented cottage by other guests (including children) is prohibited. Maximum occupancy of a cottage is 6 (two adults, 4 children, 2 of the children on futons or mats).  We have four cottages.

C) Only one family unit (family members living under the same roof at home constitute a family unit) may rent the kitchen a day and it must be reserved with the cottage rental. It will be sanitized before being rented again. Only the family members renting the kitchen may cook or be in the kitchen, or the dining area adjacent to the kitchen area.
(There are b-b-q facilities for guests not renting the kitchen, as well as out-door picnic tables. Some cottages have a refrigerator. If you wish a cottage with a refrigerator, please note with your reservation. No cottages have a stove.)

Rental restrictions currently in practice: TENTING

We can accommodate up to two family units tent camping. That is 25% of capacity. Each family will have its own private toilet/shower facility as well as tent site. It is prohibited to use any facility but the one assigned to you.
